In every country in Sub-Saharan Africa, men have higher rates of transport ownership and use than women. To reduce gender inequality, we need to understand how men and women experience transport, who has access to what mode of transport, and why.

Although Africa is the most disaster-prone continent, it is not among the countries that have had the most reported disasters in recent years. Considering only its population and not its land size can be misleading: Africa has the highest number of deaths due to natural disasters worldwide.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a common African transport initiative that aims to create a safe, reliable transport system to improve mobility. Three South African cities, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Port Elizabeth, started BRT services as a result of hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The face of transportation and travel is changing in Africa, the world’s fastest-growing continent. As the middle class grows, urbanization is on the rise and people are more connected than ever before, transportation in Africa will continue to evolve. As a result of these ever-changing factors, Africans are rapidly embracing technology and social trends for transportation mobility and accessibility.

The TransAfrica Highway is one of the greatest projects of our time, and will connect all the countries on Africa’s map. The highway begins in Cairo and passes through Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa before ending at Cape Town – traversing 18 countries.
